The story of Toby Jug, a very fine cat... When Denis O'Connor rescues a three-week-old kitten from certain death during a snowstorm, little does he know how this tiny creature will change his life for ever. Against all odds the kitten - whom he names Toby Jug - survives and forms an unusually strong bond with his rescuer. The adventures of one man and his Maine Coon cat range from an invasion of bees at Owl Cottage to the case of the disappearing tomatoes. Nevertheless, it is only when Denis and Toby Jug embark on a summer camping trip on horseback in the Cheviot Hills that a new world opens up for them both.

Paw Tracks in the Moonlight is an exquisite book recalling the life and adventures of a very special cat named Toby Jug. Dr. O'Connor tells the tale, beginning in the winter of 1966, of how he rescued an injured Maine Coon mother cat and her two kittens in the middle of a vicious English snow storm. When even a vet sees no hope for all three, Dr. O'Connor single handedly saves, revives, and nutures a small black kitten into a thriving and rambunctious cat. Divided into four parts, Dr. O'Connor takes us through Toby Jug's first Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall, then even tells the remarkable tale of how he discovered the lineage of his four-legged companion. Reading about their daily activities to their greatest adventures (including touring wild country on horseback), this book paints a brilliant portrait of the beauty of the English countryside and the inseparable bond between animal and human. I felt as though I was going to visit Toby Jug and Owl Cottage every time I sat down to read the book, and it is the only time I can say that I never wanted a book to end. This book will be considered a classic in my collection and I have ordered Dr. O'Connor's other works to complete it.Product details

I am a great lover of animals, especially cats, also of nature. Therefore when I read I like stories with this sort of content.
L loved Denis O'Connor's story of a kitten rescued out in the countryside. His descriptive writing brings the story to life.
You can almost feel the snow cruncing under your feet, or watch as spring unfolds her glory.
I am at present reading his first book, and also bought the third book......so am looking forward to these too.
I had just finished reading The World According to Bob, by James Bowen -- and I was looking for another "cat" book. I discovered this one -- and thoroughly enjoyed it. In some of the reviews, the book and its sequel (which I haven't read) were compared to James Herriot's books. I don't agree; there's nothing quite like James Herriot's writing, but it was an enjoyable read and I recommend it.
This has to be one of THE most beautiful stories I have read about a cat. From the start when the tiny kitten is at death`s door, mother and brother sadly passing, to the end, this book is easy to read, and simply impossible to put down. The author captures Toby Jug`s personality and physique so beautifully, you just cannot help falling in love with the little furry bundle. This book would appeal to any cat lover, whatever age. I absolutely loved it!!!!!!!
I don't write reviews very often, but I felt compelled to do so with this book. The author is just as delightful as Toby Jug and their love for each other is heartwarming to say the least. I absolutely loved Toby Jug from his tenuous start in life to the end, as the author does a beautiful job of capturing his spirit and their special bond. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who appreciates nature and animals, especially the cat lovers among us.
This is a heartbreaking but beautiful story. His perseverance in finding the injured cat, and the fateful decision to care for her surviving kitten, turned his life around in so many ways.
Although, this is a children's book, I enjoyed it immensely. The author is British so I was unfamiliar with some of the terminology used but I was able to figure out what they meant. I'm still not exactly sure how he was able to use the sac that held the ink in his fountain pen to feed the baby kitten milk replacer . . . since I knew what he was attempting to do, it really didn't diminish my understanding of what was being used and why. As an animal lover, the story was endearing. My proverbial hat is off to Mr. O'Connor for his ultimately successful efforts & for the rest of the story. Only those of us who have had beloved pets will truly understand the adventures and misadventures in this book. Personally, I highly recommend it.
I have written reviews on these three " entwining " books, I find the depth of emotion, that runs deep within each one ... to hold me captive within the love of all things cat. If you love cats, or hey, animals, you will appreciate the fine writing of Denis O'Connor. He captures the real meaning of love, his " true heart " is followed throughout all of his books. You are there, within the folds of their lives, expressed with so much reality. If you purchase one ( book ) you will have to have the complete set of 3 ... keep this in mind after you have read one. I guarantee that you will , maybe before you finish the first one,..... just to hold the momentum ... With each book, I could follow them Forever .... the Heart, admiration, and sorrow are what we all risk when we fall in love, and it is all here. I mentioned that I had written a review about these books, and for good reason ............. I have to feel strongly about anything, anything, !!!! to take the time to type out my feelings. Again, Mr. O'Connor, Thank You, Thank You !!! And, Best Regards to Your Wife and Family of Kitties ... amen to that .....................xo.
